André-Charles Boulle (11 November 1642 - 29 February 1732) was the most famous French cabinet maker and marquetarian. Jean-Baptiste Colbert introduced him to Louis XIV of France, the "Sun King", as "the most skilled craftsman in his profession" and in a very short time he became the king's personal master cabinetmaker, earning himself the nickname "jeweller of furniture".
He is credited with perfecting the art of marquetry, which became known as Boulle-work. The École Boulle (founded in 1886), the Paris College of Fine Arts, Crafts and Decorative Arts, is still a witness to his enduring artistry.
I loved working on this old German, shell-decorated, of Boulle marquetry beech set of furniture, that has 3 armchairs in it as well, they look wonderful in their home.
