Exotic wood is a rare and special wood that grows in the tropics and has a prominent role in the furniture industry due to its unique texture and colour. Exotic veneers are used in the manufacture of furniture in thin layers, giving the furniture a very elegant appearance.
This Art Nouveau sideboard is made of pine covered with exotic veneer, which has acquired a beautiful patina over the decades. In the early 1900s, when Art Nouveau was flourishing, artists and craftsmen often used these materials to emphasise the harmony of nature. The first step in the restoration was to remove the old, worn varnish to restore the wood to its original beauty. Then we lightly sanded the sideboard to remove minor scratches and damage. We also carefully inspected the veneer parts and replaced damaged parts where necessary, making sure that the repairs and the original details were in harmony. Of course, we also cleaned and polished the locks and hinges. The elegant marble top is one of the most striking features of the Art Nouveau sideboard. As it was in practically perfect condition, it didn't need any surface treatment, but a thorough cleaning made the surface shine.
By the end of the renovation, the sideboard had been given a new lease of life: retaining the fine lines of Art Nouveau, while the beauty of the natural materials was given a new shine. The piece of furniture can now once again take its rightful place in its old home, a masterpiece of absolute timeless perfection.
