Martindale is a unit of measurement used to quantify the abrasion resistance of textiles. (MD) The Martindale method, also known as the abrasion resistance test, simulates the natural wear of a textile by rubbing a sample against a standard surface with a specified force. The test equipment is operated at cyclic intervals to produce a specified amount of wear on the fabric. The higher the value, the more resistant the material is to abrasion.
At the time when we were selecting the fabric suppliers to have contract with, this was one of the requirements we decided to choose according to, the highest possible quality. The Belgian velvet in the picture not only represents a very high quality guarantee in terms of its origin, but its MD number of 50,000 also guarantees a long-lasting, extremely heavy use. It is also important to know that, for example, office furniture is quite different from a cinema seat, so we felt it was important to ensure the possibility for our clients to have their fabrics pre-treated, taking all environmental hazards into consideration.
So before shipping to Hungary, we can ensure, if required, special treatments to be done in the manufacturers workshop, that can make our fabrics water-repellent, fire-resistant and/or aqua clean.
This piece of furniture became a special part of the living room of a wonderful family home, upholstered with velvet, whose colour and texture also shows a very good taste. This was a meticulous work of my colleague, Krisztián and myself.
